American Sewing Guild is a national
non-profit organization founded in 1978 to promote and preserve the sewing
arts and provide a support organization for sewing enthusiasts.
The Cincinnati Chapter of the American Sewing Guild (ASG) is one of 134 chapters nationally, and has approximately 165 members in eight local counties. Currently there are 5 Neighborhood Groups and one Special Interest Garment/Wearable Art Group which meet monthly. The Cincinnati Chapter has 2-4 progam meetings yearly, featuring a variety of local, regional, and national instructors for both lectures and hands-on classes covering a variety of sewing and fabric manipulation related topics. Interested prospective members may attend any two meetings before joining. The Cincinnati Chapter is governed by a Chapter Advisory Board. Neighborhood Groups and Special Interest Groups are led by one or two group members on a rotating basis. In addition to making creations for ourselves, family, and friends, we participate in community service projects such as gifts for our troops, and economically disadvantaged or hospitalized children.
Membership benefits include “members-only” discounts, access to the “Members-Only” portion of the ASG National Website, Sew Much Fun Tours (e.g. Hong Kong, New York City, Paris, Pacific Northwest), online chats with sewing celebrities, webinars, tips and educational information, the annual ASG Conference, and member pricing to all ASG-sponsored events.
Members receive two quarterly publications with their membership. Bobbin Along is our local Cincinnati Chapter ASG newsletter, and Notions is the National ASG publication. The 134 chapter newsletters are available for viewing by members on the National ASG website.
In addition to “Member only” discounts from many sewing vendors, we enjoy 10% off at both Joann’s Fabrics and Hancock Fabrics.
